La GOMERA
EXPLORING THE ISLAND OF
DISCOVER OUR HIKES IN LA GOMERA
Our hikes on La Gomera were more than footsteps on a map—they were rituals of discovery.
We followed goat trails that twisted like ancient tales through the landscape, descended into ravines where silence spoke, and climbed ridgelines where clouds stood guard over the island. Each step brought us closer to the soul of the barrancos, where wind and stone whisper age-old secrets.

Hiking on La Gomera – between mist and myth
From the mystical Garajonay to the sun-drenched terraces of Vallehermoso, we walked not just through nature, but through time.
And each day, as the light faded, we carried a new story home—a story of connection, wonder, and the rhythm of La Gomera itself.

March 23. - No time to ease in—straight off the ferry, we laced up and launched into a beast of a hike that showcased La Gomera’s wild beauty in full force. From the quiet hamlet of Las Casetas, we followed the ancient GR132 trail, tracing the spine of the island all the way to San Sebastián.
In a word? Overwhelming. The weather was glorious, and the views of Tenerife and the towering Teide across the water were a constant companion. Over 12 kilometers of pure joy, punctuated by bursts of adrenaline on narrow cliffside paths that demanded focus and respect.
This linear route is best tackled in clear weather, when the panoramas truly shine. For logistics: we took a taxi (€10) to the trailhead in Las Casetas—simple, efficient, and well worth it.

Ravines and Raw Beauty

Today’s hike took us from the remote hamlet of Jerduñe to San Sebastián—a 14 km journey of ups and downs, crossing four dramatic ravines. The descent into the Barranco del Cabrito was especially intense: steep, technical, and at times genuinely risky. But with careful footing and full attention, it’s absolutely doable.
We followed the original GR132 route, and now it’s clear why the trail was later rerouted. Still, this path offers a raw, untamed beauty that’s hard to match. The landscapes are majestic, the views phenomenal, and the sense of isolation adds to the magic.
⚠️ Not recommended for anyone with a fear of heights! This trail demands courage, concentration, and respect for the terrain. But for those who dare: it’s a day you’ll never forget.

We set off from the charming village of La Laja, nestled deep in the folds of the island’s eastern hills. From there, our path climbed steadily toward the towering Roque Agando—a dramatic basalt monolith that rises like a sentinel from the earth, watching over the valleys below. Bathed in morning light, Agando felt less like a rock and more like a sacred landmark, etched into the island’s soul.
The ascent was demanding but rewarding, with sweeping views unfolding at every turn—ocean, ravines, and the distant silhouette of Tenerife. After a well-earned pause beneath Agando’s shadow, we descended into the enchanted realm of Garajonay National Park. The laurel forest welcomed us with its misty embrace: moss-covered branches, filtered light, and a hush that made every footstep feel ceremonial.
This circular hike is a celebration of La Gomera’s contrasts—sunlit ridges and shadowed woods, volcanic drama and quiet mystery. It’s not just a walk; it’s a journey through the island’s living mythology.
